GIS has emerged as a powerful tool to represent complex data on maps in recent years. This technology has been adopted by the PWD-B&R Department to effectively showcase the various roads, bridges, buildings and the related attributes like the name of the road, length, width, crust thickness, ROW, etc.

The digitisation of toposheets for administrative boundaries (districts, villages, blocks, etc.) is being done in isolation by different departments due to maps requirement. It leads to the generation of different datasets of the same theme (layer) such as District, Tehsil and Village boundaries with different coding patterns and attributes. The use of GIS has resulted in adoption of common uniform road codification wherein the data/information along with the road codification of all types of roads is being entered in the system, which will further enable the users to locate the roads and the related attributes on the base maps of the State provided in this application.
